Meet Samsarah Morgan

By Chloe Hood, MPH Candidate, Doula

Hey BBU Hub! Meet Samsarah Morgan, doula, teacher, advocate, and founder of the Oakland Better Birth Foundation.

Samsarah Morgan was a doula for five years before she learned that what she was doing could be a profession. After a beautiful and empowering experience birthing twin boys, Samsarah began accompanying her friends during birth. Just as she had advocated for supportive providers during her own pregnancy, she supported other women with science-based, personal, and caring support. Birth support, she believes, is essential: a spiritual practice that has always been with humanity.

A Birth Equity Trailblazer in the Bay Area:

Samsarah Morgan provides doula services to families throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to doula care, she supports families through childbirth education, hypnotherapy, mama and baby blessings, and family life coaching. Samsarah believes deeply in the power of birth as a transformative process for parents, and she supports every aspect of growth through thorough prenatal support and holistic care before, during, and after birth.

Alongside her own doula practice, Samsarah is the founder of the Oakland Better Birth Foundation, an organization that promotes and uplifts the work of other doulas through community and mentorship. Through the Foundation, Samsarah provides doula trainings and works in partnership with other doulas in a Doula Circle. The Oakland Better Birth Foundation also works toward birth equity through Medi-Cal Doula workshops, helping doulas navigate the insurance reimbursement process and meet families’ needs.

Respect for Infants and Families

In all of her work, Samsarah’s commitment to joy, autonomy, and respect in childbirth shines through. She believes that every birth can be healing, bringing people closer to God and teaching them about the power of their own bodies. As an adoring mother and grandmother, she sees children as a product of love they receive. This love begins in the birth space, and Samsarah centers respect for infants from the moment they are born. As an advocate for birth equity, Samsarah’s vision for the future is one of radical care: “If it was up to me,” she says, “little girls would be raised not to be afraid of birth.” Instead, Samsarah is working toward a future with true reproductive choice, where people give birth in a supportive setting where “someone is rubbing their feet, someone is telling them they are beautiful and strong, and children are born strong.”
