Hey BBU HUB! Meet Joia Edwards, founder of Quality Childcare Service, Inc. Located in West Oakland, Quality Childcare Service offers a unique combination of affordable childcare, homeschooling support, and postpartum doula care, all in a welcoming and love-filled environment.
As a new mom, Joia saw a need for childcare that was both affordable and truly caring. A longtime early childcare provider and paraprofessional, she took matters into her own hands and founded Quality Childcare Service (QCCS) as an in-home daycare in 2016.
Compassionate Care for the Whole Family:
From the beginning, Joia has seen QCCS as a village to support not only young children, but whole families. Alongside early childhood education, Joia offers homeschooling support for children 5 years and up. In 2022, Joia trained with Sumi’s Touch as a full spectrum doula and began integrating doula care into QCCS. Today, newly postpartum parents can recover with their infants in a dedicated space, supported by doulas and lactation consultants, while older children play and learn nearby. This unique model embodies Joia’s belief that “childcare begins in the mother’s womb.”
Community-Oriented Support:
Quality Childcare Service is deeply rooted in the West Oakland community, and an important part of its mission is to show up for its community members. Joia reflects these values by pricing her services on a sliding scale based on each family’s financial needs. She also accommodates nontraditional work schedules through flexible childcare hours. Alongside its regular childcare hours from 6am to 6pm daily, QCCS offers overnight and extended childcare options.
